General Information
What is DSpec HYPER?
DSpec HYPER is an online FPV (First Person View) drone racing league designed for school-age pilots (18 and under). It uses the VelociDrone simulator to host monthly racing events over a 8-month season. The goal is to develop young talent, promote fair competition through spec racing, and build a fun, inclusive racing community.
Who can join DSpec HYPER?
Anyone aged 18 or younger who has access to a Windows or MacOS desktop of laptop, running VelociDrone and a compatible radio controller can join. Basic flying skills are recommended.
How long does the season run?
The season runs for 8 months, with one race event each month. There may also be optional mini-challenges or practice meets between events. See the schedule.
Equipment & Setup
What software is used for racing?
All races take place on VelociDrone, a leading FPV drone racing simulator.
What kind of drone is used in the league?
DSpec HYPER uses a spec drone class to level the playing field. All pilots race with the same drone setup (locked PID settings, customisable rates). Details and presets are provided at the start of each race month.
What hardware/bits do I need to participate?

- A radio controller that is USB-compatible
- Stable internet connection

Competition Format
How will points be awarded at a race?
There are 24 racers per race. The winner will be awarded the full 24 points.

Each monthly event includes:
- Timed qualifying sessions
- Top 20 pilots from qualifying will proceed to race event.
- 4 x wildcard pilot will be randomly chosen to proceed to race event.
- Race Event: double elimination or bracket-style races (top 24)
- A final round (formats may include “Chase the Ace”, Best of 3/5, etc.)
How is scoring handled?
Points are awarded based on finishing positions and consistency. Penalties may be applied for unsafe flying or rule violations. Final season standings are determined by accumulated points.
What happens if I miss a race?
While we encourage participation in every event, you won’t be disqualified for missing one. Only your best results across the season are counted (e.g., top 7 out of 10 events).
Rules & Conduct
What are the main rules I need to follow?
Key rules include:
- Fly clean: avoid intentional contact or aggressive manoeuvres
- Respect all pilots and marshals
- No cheating or altering drone specs
- Adhere to Discord safety and behaviour guidelines
Are there penalties for crashing into others?
Yes. Unsafe overtaking and contact can result in point deductions or disqualification, similar to motorsports like Formula 1. Our goal is to promote fair and respectful racing.
Parents & Safety
Is Discord safe for kids?
Yes. We use a moderated, kid-safe Discord server with:
- Limited channels
- Parental guidance encouraged for younger racers
- Strict behavior rules
- Verified accounts only
Can parents observe or participate?
Absolutely! Parents are welcome to observe races, help with setup, and stay involved in Discord to monitor their child’s participation.
Registration & Support
How do I register for DSpec HYPER?
Once you’ve purchased your season pass, you’ll be sent an email with a link and instructions. You’ll need to fill out the form with your details, proposed callsign, and confirm eligibility (such as age, equipment, etc).
What if I need help setting up VelociDrone or Discord?
We’ve got beginner guides and a friendly support team in our Discord. Just reach out in the #help channel, and someone will assist you.
